Believe

They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved-you and your household.”- Acts 16:31

People today are hurting, and are looking for a sense of purpose.  They are looking to all the wrong things to find something for their pain, struggle, and loneliness.  Inevitably they start to contemplate deeper questions such as “Why am I here?”  “What am I doing with my life?”  Or, in the case of today’s verse, “What must I do to be saved?”

Paul and Silas were thrown in prison for preaching the Gospel.  While in prison they prayed and sang hymns.  There was a great earthquake, their chains were broken, and the jailer thought they escaped.  Paul assured the man that they were still there, and immediately the man asked “What must I do to be saved?”  Today’s verse provides a simple yet profound answer to the question of the repentant sinner.  Salvation comes through believing the Gospel, an the very content of the Gospel in Jesus Christ himself.  Believe in him, that he is the Son of God, that He died for your sins and rose again and you will be saved.  No if, ands, or buts today’s verse says you will be saved.  What are you putting your faith in today?
