Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hands of Saul.”- 2 Samuel 12:7
The holidays are over and a new year has dawned. This time of year we look back and reflect on the previous year, and things that we have done or did not do. Today’s verse is a powerful reminder of what damage sin can do.
David was the King over Israel and he had an affair with the wife of Uriah. To hide the resulting pregnancy David sends him to the front line in battle, and to a certain death. Nathan the prophet confronts David and that is where today’s verse begins. We are all like David in this regard. We all have sin, and some of us may be trying to hide it. The thing about sin is that it will always make itself known. The rebuke of Nathan caused David to repent. Today is the day for us to repent of the sin we are trying to hide. It is our sin that nailed Jesus to the cross, and it is through faith in him that we may be forgiven. What sin are you trying to hide? What damage is it causing? Come clean and repent. Turn away from it and get a fresh start in Christ.
