“Though you have not seen him, you love him, and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”-1 Peter 1:8-9
Peter wrote his first epistle to Christians who were experiencing intense persecution. In most areas of the world the very profession of being a Christian was an offense that was punishable by death. Peter writes to encourage them. Though they are enduring much they still have joy and love the Lord. Today’s verse reiterates what there faith has brought them…salvation.
Today’s verse is still an encouragement to us today. It is also a reminder of what faith in the Lord Jesus Christ means. It means salvation for our souls. However a today’s verse poses a question to all of us. Are we living with the hope and joy that Peter is describing? Or are we walking around having a itty party because something did go our way? Remember he was writing to people who could be killed for going to church yet they were “filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.” Take some time today to remember the great and awesome gift we are given by our faith in Christ. It is the end result of our faith…salvation. That alone is case us that inexpressible joy that Peter speaks of.
