Time to Train

“For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way as it holds promise for the present life and for the life to come.”- 1 Timothy 4:8

Everyday we see it on social media.  So and so checked into the gym, ran ten miles, or lost so many pounds.  They are in the gym before dawn training their bodies to increase endurance, muscle tone, or perhaps even train for an athletic event.  As Christians shouldn’t our walk with Christ deserve the same attention?

I am not knocking exercise, and neither is the Apostle Paul.  He does use the imagery to bring to mind that exercise is needed, and is beneficial.  How much more beneficial is the eternal value of being the Lord’s servant?  Training in godliness includes prayer, fellowship with other believers, and studying scripture.  These things are not only beneficial now as they allow us to live godly lives, and they help us become better witnesses.  Just like physical exercise helps us build muscular endurance these spiritual exercises help us live healthier spiritual lives. here is a saying that sates “You are what you eat?”  What are you feeding your soul?
