No Condemnation

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”- Romans 8:1

“There is therefore no condemnation.”  Think about those words, their meaning, and the Gospel.  Paul is very specific in what he meant.  He is summarizing exclamation that victory comes through Jesus Christ (Romans 7:23-25).  A new era of salvation history has come into being for those who are in right standing with Christ.

For the Christian there is no longer a condemnation for sin because it has been satisfied by the finished work on the cross.  Our penalty for transgressing the law of God has been removed.  Does this mean that we will no longer sin?  By no means is Paul saying this.  We will mess up, and we will need to ask for forgiveness and strength to overcome sin. We will feel bad when we mess up, and those emotions can help us overcome temptation in the future. That is another implication of today’s verse.  When the enemy is tempting us by saying things like  “Look what you used to do,”  or “You aren’t good enough for God.”  Tell him that there is no condemnation for those in Christ!  Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus.
