God is in Control

“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.”-Genesis 50:20

The story of Joseph is always encouraging to me.  Here is a man who was sold into slavery by his older brothers, he interpreted one of Pharaoh’s dreams and led Egypt’s preparation for a massive famine, and became basically the second in command of that great nation.  People from many different areas came to Egypt to buy food during this famine.  Among them were Joseph’s older brothers.

Today’s verse shows just how God can turn something evil into something good.  Joseph’s sale into slavery was treacherous, and his father thought he was dead.  Joseph maintained his faith in the Lord, and leaned on His wisdom and guidance.  Many people were saved as a result of this preparation.  Look back on your own life.  Has there been a difficult time that God made something good out of?  I know He did for me.  That is not all of Joseph’s story.  He also forgave his brothers for their actions towards him.  We must be forgiving to others, and we must have faith in God.  These things help us conform to Christ.  I will leave you with Romans 8:28 which states, “And we know for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”  Having faith in God also requires a trust in his timing.  We may not see the good in this life, but in Heaven.

  1. Love the story of Joseph. A reminder that many times we have no idea what God is up to through the difficulties in our lives. The response should always be to trust in God’s faithfulness, knowing that He is in control whether we can see it or not.
