“But I say, walk by the spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for they are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.”-Galatians 5:16-17
Spiritual warfare is real. There is no way to sugarcoat it, nor do I think it is appropriate to do so. Though we are Christians we still have selfish lusts and desires that we are tempted with. There is an epidemic in American Christianity that seems to want to have the two coexist. Friends…Christianity is a zero sum game. Christ wants all of us not just a piece. Paul tells us in today’s verse that the two natures are at war with each other. So it is a logical conclusion that they cannot coexist.
To walk by the Spirit implies empowerment and direction. We must always seek the guidance of the Lord and rely on the power that only He can provide. As Christians we can conquer the flesh and have continuous victory by walking in the power of the Holy Spirit. Satan is always looking for a way to make us stumble, and he may succeed. Praise God that we can ask for forgiveness, get up, and keep going. We must stay in the Word and prayer to win this spiritual battle. By seeking the guidance of the Lord we will win in the end. What sin are you struggling with? Resolve today to lay it at the foot of the cross, ask for the Lord’s guidance and power, and become further conformed to Christ.
